I've been using QuickBooks to manage accounting for EnergyTeachers.org.

Use QuickBooks at least once a month, at least to reconcile account statements. If I let it go too long, I forget some of the features and methods involved in accounting using QB.

When I use sub-accounts, I should be very careful to enter things in the right place.
