Introduction

I will argue that teaching introductory physics is partly telling the world what physics is. That story has changed, and perhaps we will see that the story line can have a momentum that takes us tangentially away from what we want to teach.

Changing narratives

Staley (reference Einstein's Generations) compares the organizers and attendees of the Paris 1900 conference and the Solvay conferences, and discusses how at the latter we see evidence of a redefinition of "classical physics." Also in the early 20th century, we see introductory physics texts finally coming to an agreement on what introductory physics is, canonically. (cite evidence)
