I've created an activity for telling others about our favorite physics educators called "Rate my historical professor," a play on the rate-my-teachers sites. We'll survey participants for qualities they admire in their past teachers, then create a rubric of ratings that may or may not apply to all educators. Our purpose will be to distill comments to their essence, to pique the interest of readers, and identify qualities valued across the field.
Qualities
- Engagement
- Great stories
- Amazing demos
- Personal attention
- A good mentor to teaching assistants
- Works will with other educators
- Fascinating field trips
- Forgiving
- Admitted and conquered their own challenges
- Known for all their great students
