Image Capture not responding, OS 10.4.11, Epson 1640XL v 1.07.

Sometimes, using the Epson 1640XL scanner connected via USB, Apple's Image Capture stops working except in TWAIN software mode. So far, I have fixed this only with a reboot of the computer. I've tried reconnecting USB, restarting the scanner, and quitting the program.

I should try seeing if there's a process that I can kill to get back without rebooting. Killing "Epson Scan ..." has freed up the program, but then it stalls mid-scan.

I should try seeing if it's a problem with the buffer. There's a setting for buffer or native memory, but only when opting to use twain software instead of Image Capture.

This from the system.log, "Jan 7 11:32:04 PBookG415 /Applications/Image Capture.app/Contents/MacOS/Image Capture: CGContextSetLineWidth: invalid line width: negative values are not allowed."
