Class time

It seemed we wanted to discuss so many things today. Certainly appropriate for a class that is longer than the usual hour. But how organized should the sequence of thinking be, and who gets to organize it, or change the order, just the head of the class? Are the rules of the classroom better stated at the outset, or established as necessary?
